One of the finest botanical works in Germany, with the most splendid flowers bred in European Baroque gardens, plates in splendid old coloring. "The most sumptuous of the Florilegia .. It is a gallery of the most colorful and ravishing flowers that could be grown in European gardens, with highly stylized plates very finely painted .. For the Hortus nitidissimus the artists ignored anatomical detail and concentrated on representing the flowering plants at their peak of florescent luxury" (De Belder). - Plates show daffodils, lilies, cloves, crocuses, buttercups, tulips, crown imperials, anemones, hyacinths, checkered lilies, primroses, iris and roses from the splendid gardens in Europe. - Text self-contained (A-E2). - Plates at hand 4-7, 9, 10, 12-17, 19-47, 49, 50, 38* as well as 2 unnumb. plates (Ranunculus I and Hyacinthus I). - Plates slightly browned, stained in margins and with minim. creases, title and last text leaf stained, title with ownership inscription. Binding scraped, spine with tear. Altogether fine copy.
