Curtis, William, Flora londiniensis: or plates and descriptions of such plants as grow wild in the environs of London: with their places of growth and times of flowering. 6 Tle. in 2 Bdn. Mit gest. Titelvignette und 383 kolor. Kupfertafeln (st. 432). London, Selbstverlag bzw. B. White 1777-[1798]. Ldr. d. Zt. (Bd. I) und Ldr. im Stil d. Zt., jew. mit reicher Blindprägung und etw. Rücken- und Deckelverg. Folio. 2 Bll., 4 S., 6 (st. 9) Bll. Indices, 392 (st. 396) Bll.

"The book contains some of James Sowerby's first botanical illustrations. Other artists involved were Sydenham Edwards and W. Kilburn .. It should be properly regarded as the first color-plate national flora of England. " (De Belder) - Mit den oft fehlenden General observations on the advantage which may result from the introduction of the seeds of our best grasses (1787), jedoch ohne den nicht allen Exemplaren beigebundenen Catalogue of certain plants, growing wild, chiefly in the enviros of Settle, Yorkshire (1782). - Fehlt der Drucktitel zu Bd. II (durch hs. Titelbl. ersetzt). Tlw. leicht gebräunt, vereinz. gering fleckig (1 Tafel stärker), tlw. mit leichtem Abklatsch des Kolorits, Tafeln in Bd. I mit hs.

Nissen 453. - Pritzel 2004. - Stafleu/Cowan 1286. - Sitwell/Blunt S. 88f. - De Belder 86. - Henrey 595. - Coll. A. Plesch 161.

Second print of the first edition with address "Botanic Garden, Lambeth-Marsh" of the author. - The beautiful botanical work on the flora of all England, not just London and surroundings (as the title suggests), with the plates in fine contemporary colors. With engr. title vignette and 383 col. engr. plates (of 432). Contemp. calf (vol. I) and 20th cent. calf in 18th century style. - Lacking the print title of vol. II (replaced by a ms. title page). Partly slightly browned, occasionally stained (1 plate stronger), partly with slight offset of the coloring to the opposite page, a few text leaves with small marginal defects, title page of vol. I cut out and mounted, with small library stamp, inner hinges reinforced. Binding of vol. I somewhat rubbed, corners, joints and spine restaured using the old material.
