Band I der dreibändigen niederländischen Erstausgabe Toonneel des Aerdrycks, mit dem vollständigen Kartenteil von Nord- und Osteuropa, Deutschland (Teilen Österreichs und der Schweiz) im ersten Teil und den Niederlanden mit Belgien im zweiten Teil. "The Dutch edition of Blaeu's Theatrum orbis terrarum is the most complicated of the editions of this atlas .. innumberable variants .. This 1642 edition is apparently the first edition" (Van der Krogt II, 169 u. 173.). - Zu Beginn die schöne Weltkarte von W. J. Blaeu Nova totius terrarum orbis geographica ac hydrographica tabula (Shirley 255) in Mercatorprojektion, eingerahmt von vier Bildleisten mit Allegorien der Planeten, Jahreszeiten und Elementen sowie den Weltwundern der Antike, die Nordpolkarte Regiones sub polo arctico und die Kontinentkarte Europa recens descripta ebenfalls von W. J. Blaeu, alle drei in zeitgenössischem Flächenkolorit, dann folgen die grenzkolorierten Teilkarten von Skandinavien und dem östlichen Europa sowie Deutschland und den Niederlanden, darunter die beiden mehrfach gefalteten Flußlaufkarten von Rhein und Donau.

EINBAND: Pergamentband der Zeit mit Goldprägung auf Deckel (Verlagseinband, beschädigt). Gr.-Folio. 52 : 33 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit illustriertem allegorischen Titel, Zwischentitel zu Tl. II mit breiter gestochener Bordüre und 6 kolor. Holzschnitten und 1 kolor. Kupferstich im Text sowie 120 überwiegend doppelblattgr. kolorierten Kupferkarten (4 gefaltet). - ZUSTAND: Die Karte Zeelandia comitatus von W. J. Blaeu hier überklebt mit Comitatus Zelandiae von N. Visscher. Tlw. mit schmalem Wasserrand und ca. ein Drittel der Karten mit leichtem Plattenton, ca. 5 Karten stärker stockfleckig, ca. 10 Karten unten mit Falzeinriß bis an die Plattenkante (darunter Welt, Europa und Nordpol), die von 4 Platten gedruckte Faltkarte Magni ducatus Lithuaniae insgesamt knittrig und im rechten, stellenw. gelösten Segment stark fleckig, das rechte Drittel der eigentlich gefalteten Karte vom Elsaß lose beliegend und mit Randläsuren. Einbanddecke vom Buchblock gelöst und eingerissen, flieg. Vorsatzblätter beschädigt und fleckig. - Insgesamt innen gutes Exemplar mit breitrandigen, überwiegend sauberen Karten.

Atlas of Germany and the Netherlands, with Northern and Eastern Europe, Austria and Switzerland. Volume I (of 3) of the first Dutch edition in 3 volumes of Blaeus "Theatrum orbis terrarum". In fine contemporary outline and partly surface coloring. With illustr. engr. title, title of pt. 2 with engr. borader, 6 col. woodcuts and 1 col. engr. in text and 120 mostly doublepage col. engr. maps (4 folding). Contemp. vellum with gilt decoration on boards (publisher's binding, damaged). - Map "Zeelandia comitatus" by W. J. Blaeu here replaced and pasted over with "Comitatus Zelandiae" by N. Visscher. Margins partly with waterstain and ca. onethird of the maps with plate tone, ca. 5 maps with stronger foxing, ca. 10 maps with split to fold (up to platemark; amongst others world map, Europe and polar chart), the folding map of Lithunia (printed from 4 plates) overall creased and with stronger staining to righthand segment (partly detached), the righthand third of the originally folding map of Alsatia here detached and with marginal defects. Vellum cover detached from inner book, with tears, the first and last white leaves therefore with damages. - Inside overall good copy, the maps wide-margined and mostly clean.
