Der Falkenturm auf dem Mönchsberg bei Salzburg. 1818.
In good condition. With a tiny crack in the coat of paint or tiny colour loss on the leafage of the right tree. Partly with minor retouches in the margins.
Oil on cardboard, laid down on canvas.
17 : 26 cm (6,6 : 10,2 in). The present work is one of Reinhold's early oil paintings. After his studies at the Dresden and Vienna Academy, the artist worked as a copper-engraver and etcher. First in 1816, under the supervision of his brother Friedrich Philipp, the artist turned to landscape painting. In 1818, Reinhold took a trip through Salzburg and Berchtesgarden, inspiring him to conduct several landscape studies - as in the present view of the falcon tower on the Möchberg mountain near Salzburg.
