Selling from A-Z
Cataloging
In cooperation with experts specialized in the respective artist, our experts examine each work thoroughly. This way we can guarantee a professional and complete catalog description with comprehensive information on exhibitions, literature and provenances.
An art-historic and scientific expertise is just as important for your work's increase in value as establishing promotional information to classify the work in the artist's oeuvre.
Catalogs
For our auctions we produce elaborate catalogs with a print run of more than 10.000 copies, which we mail to clients around the world free of charge. If desired, we will gladly send you a copy, consignors automatically receive the catalog that contains their object.
Cleaning, restoration, conservation
A skilfully executed cleaning/restoration or necessary conservation measure may possibly increase the sale value of your object significantly. If this is the case we will gladly make use of our long-term contacts with the most acclaimed restorers, which are also active for public institutions, and will organize professional handling according to prior agreement, that will be in sensible cost-value ratio.
Consignment commission
The consignment commission, also known as consignment fee, is only due in the event of a successful sale and is a percentage of the work’s hammer price. Details subject to personal agreement.
Consignment contract
After you have decided to sell with Ketterer Kunst, we will close a contract with you that contains all agreements between you and us (for example consignment commission and costs).
As soon as you have signed the contract we will take care of all details – from pickup to sale.
Evaluation
Our experts are gladly at your disposal to estimate the market value of your works.
Send us an image and all the information you have by mail, e-mail or make use of the quickest way and fill in our + online form. After a thorough analysis of the work and the international market, our experts will give you their first estimate.
Another option is to make an appointment with one our representative offices or to visit our expert days (+ contact). In special cases and on request we will be glad to visit you personally, in order to explore sales options.
Time and again we are asked about the right point in time for a consignment. The answer is very simple, it is NOW.
Not only does the current art market offer excellent conditions for sellers, with some artists it may take some time before an expertise is issued.
In case restoration measures will optimize sales chances, this will also need some time.
Please note that we have specialized in 19th century art, Modern Classics, Post War and Contemporary Art as well as Rare Books and that we only auction items from those fields.
Expertise
In many cases an acknowledged expertise is very important. We are in close contact with relevant international experts and, in case you are not in possession of an expertise already, we will gladly arrange so.
Please note that for most visual artists, different from, for instance, antiquities, there is only one relevant expert. Only his statement matters, an expertise issued by other people are in most cases completely worthless.
For both domestic and international inquiries, as well as for organization and handling, we charge a lump-sum operating cost of € 150 plus shipping costs and the expert's fee. We will inform you thereof ahead of time.
Images
All objects displayed in our high-quality catalogs are shot by our professional photographers. Our buyers can rely on true-color images that guarantee a safe purchase without having seen the original work.
Image fees subject to personal agreement.
Insurance costs
Your works are insured through us at minimum selling price from the day of consignment to the sale. Costs are at 1 % of the hammer price if sold and 1 % of the agreed minimum selling price if unsold.
Offer
After the work has been inspected and researched, our expert will make a comprehensive and completely non-binding offer accompanied by a market analysis. This generally happens within a few business days, in individual cases research may be quite complex and can therefor require more time.
A current price estimate is specified in our offer. Please note that the estimate must be set at an attractive rate in order to be appealing for potential buyers.
This is the only way to make sure that many sales prospects are addressed.
Only when several potential buyers try to outbid one another, a price increase will occur! The estimate, or the range between upper and lower estimate respectively, serves as orientation for buyers. With most objects in our auctions this price is clearly overbid.
The offer also comprises a minimum selling price, also known as limit price. This is the lowest price at which bids are accepted.
Payment (results/proceeds)

Four weeks after the auction you will receive a written clearance of your sales and after another three weeks the latest you will receive sale proceeds in cash, collection only check or by bank transfer to your account.
