Müller 745 and 747 -774. - Cat. Papiergesänge 40. - - 1 of 50 numb. copies of the de-luxe edition on laid paper by Zanders with etching and the signed series of the illustrations on Japon, signed by artist in publisher's imprint (complete print run 300). – Lavishly made, broad margined press print by J. Hegner in Hellerau. Lithographs were made on the hand press by A. Rogall, Berlin. "The etching was reserved to the hundred copies of the de-luxe edition and served as their frontispiece. It shows young David facing Goliath the Giant. With strong contrasts of black and white, dark internal drawing and the etching's velvety black, it shows stylistic proximity to the lithographs. Corinth possessed great poise in using the soft lithography chalk for creating an expressive atmosphere. Light falls onto a scene in dark ambience, single motifs, such as the male and female nudes, have been taken from artist's pictorial repertoire. The illustrations for ‘Saul und David’ originate from Corinth's last period of creation." (Translation of quote from cat. 'Papiergesänge').
