Heinz Mack showed his light reliefs of structured aluminum with the title "Vibration" at the 8th evening exhibition of "ZERO" in Piene's studio in October 1958. At the same time the famous essay "Die Ruhe der Unruhe" was released in "ZERO 2", which addresses the meaning and effect of vibrations in his art. This work from the same year is characterized by the usage of a special material: Heinz Mack used gypsum on wood. An unusually calm motion pattern, with an effect coined by the black, is the result. The work group of the "Vibrationen" comprises just few works of this intensity and calmness.
