Gewitter über dem Rosengarten bei Bozen. 1914.
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated in lower right. 53.5 x 74 cm (21 x 29.1 in). [JS].
• The mountain landscape is rendered on the canvas in a wonderful easy manner.
- The impasto and energetic mountain-cloud panorama in the background is particularly beautiful.
- During May 1914, after extensive travels in Egypt and Italy, Slevogt recovered in Bolzano, where he created watercolors and very few paintings of the snow-covered peaks of the Dolomites.
- Only one other painting from his trip to Italy has ever been offered on the international auction market (source: www.artprice.de).
- Together with Liebermann and Corinth, Slevogt is one of the outstanding representatives of German Impressionism.
This work's authenticity has kindly been confirmed orally by Bernhard Geil. We are grateful for his kind expert advice.
