Reproduction
Reproduction is the process of duplicating, as it were, as it were. At the same time reproduction also designates the copy thus produced. As applied to art, the term reproduction implies multiple duplication of a work. The term reproduction is, therefore, applied mainly to printmaking. By contrast, the term used for a single duplicate or reproduction of a work of art by a hand other than the artist's is copy. If such a copy is made almost synchronously by the artist himself, it is called a replica. In printing the term reproduction implies duplicating images with the aid of photography. Reproductive technology encompasses the making of printing formes for reproducing and reduplicating.
